Local and Community Currency

At Zunoma we have a wealth of experience in all types of secure printing and that includes several unique categories, many of which require high levels of security against fraudulent activities. Independent local and community currencies require this level of protection and also thought around design and creativity.

Since 2006 there has been a rise in the use of local currencies with its objective to inspire spending within local communities and build community connections. Unlike paper gift vouchers that have a single transaction, local currency is continually recycled through the retail system. Because of this it needs to withstand constant handling and include security features that help instil confidence with the public.

The Lewes Pound

Notably, Zunoma prints the Lewes pound, now in its 13th year. It celebrates and supports the diversity of independent traders, producers and suppliers in the town.

All of the notes feature the political activist Thomas Paine who lived in Lewes from 1768-1774, He went on to become a founding father of the United States. He is famous for his quote – “We have it in our power to build the world anew”.
